The Frequency Room

An enclosed, audio-reactive room. Guests feel the bass in the seat while the walls move with the track. It's our lead activation for high-impact events, with a Mini Room for mid-size shows and a canopy for local meets.

AI concept footage with a demo beat. Tap the video for sound; the glow pulses on the beat.

Cost per show

The build is a one-time cost; this is what each event costs to run. Soundhouse covers the AV and gear, so we skip rentals. Trucks are U-Hauls on Soundhouse's business account plus fuel. Crew is either the two of us ($0) or Soundhouse crew at an internal rate, not the client rate, which Mason coordinates. Ben Randall runs visuals on his own rig and Resolume. The venue's booth fee is the biggest line and the one we control by choosing shows.

Demos assume 90-second sessions and a realistic share of full seats. Break-even counts Starter kits at $449 retail against about $225 unit cost (the 100-unit quote), so about $224 of margin each, sold at full price. Venue fees for Texas shows vary widely; confirm per show.

How the audio-reactive part works

One music source feeds three things at once, so the seats, the speakers and the visuals stay locked together.

StepWhat it isGear
1. SourceA 90-second demo playlist on loop, or a live DJ at festivalsLaptop, or DJ mixer
2. SplitA small mixer sends the same signal three waysSoundhouse mixer or DSP
3a. SeatsWired into each controller's audio line-in, so every seat hits at the same instant and room noise doesn't matterOur demo seats
3b. SpeakersFour compact speakers and a sub, kept at conversation volumeSoundhouse PA
3c. VisualsSoftware reads the bass, kick and snare and drives the wave graphics liveMedia PC + Resolume Arena or TouchDesigner
4. ProjectionShort-throw laser projectors cover the back and side walls; the floor is optional1 owned + 2 more

The 85 dB rule works in our favor. SEMA caps sound inside any exhibit at 85 decibels. Most audio brands have to turn down. Our product is felt, so the room stays at a normal volume while guests still get hit with the bass through the seat. That's the pitch in one line: the loudest booth on the floor at 85 dB.

Transport, setup and show rules

TruckThe Room packs into road cases and fits one 16–26 ft box truck. Texas shows: drive it. Las Vegas: drive it (~19 hrs) or book a trade show freight carrier.
Show feesBudget $3K–$8K round-trip freight for out-of-state shows, plus venue material handling (drayage) of $1.5K–$5K at big shows.
Crew2 people travel. Hire local hands for the build day and the strike; at big shows, union labor does the heavy lifting anyway. Some venues require union labor for forklifts and hanging signs.
Keep it open-topA ceiling makes it a "covered booth": smoke detectors, fire marshal review and possibly sprinklers. Tall walls with no roof get us the dark room without that.
Wall heightsAt SEMA, island booths can go to 16 ft, but inline booths stop at 8 ft 3 in. The full room needs an island or peninsula space.
Fire certsEvery fabric needs a flame-retardant certificate on hand for the fire marshal.

Timeline

About 10–12 weeks from yes to first show. That rules out SEMA this November for the full room; the Mini Frequency Room can make it if we have a booth.

WeeksWork
1–2Final layout, venue rules check, order truss, drape, projectors
3–8Facade and graphics production; build the reactive visuals and demo playlist
9–10Full test build at Soundhouse, film it for content
11–12Pack, ship, first show

What plays on the screens

A first pass at the actual screen content, the same look on the Room's walls, the Mini Room's screen and the canopy TV. The bars and trace are driven by the audio itself, so every kick hits the seat and the picture at the same instant. At events this runs live in Resolume off the demo playlist; this is a rendered 32-second loop.

What plays on the outside TVs

The 30-second loop for the two 85" TVs on the Room's exterior walls: ice-blue product spots of the cushion, the controller and a night drive, the real logo throughout, and an end card with a QR to basscraft.co. Built to read with the sound off.
